Driving from Cody into Yellowstone National Park during the summer is a journey through some of the most dramatic landscapes in the American West. The road climbs from the high plains into forested valleys where elk graze near clear streams and wildflowers bloom in profusion. Approaching the park’s thermal areas, plumes of steam rise from geysers and hot springs, their vibrant mineral-rich pools painting the landscape with yellows, greens, and blues.
The summer air is warm but crisp in the higher elevations, and wildlife such as bison and pronghorn may appear along the roadside. Continuing southward, the road winds through deep valleys and across meandering rivers, with mountain peaks forming a stunning backdrop that seems to stretch endlessly under the bright summer sky. By the time the route reaches the south entrance, the combination of geothermal wonders, abundant wildlife, and vast, open vistas makes the drive a full immersion into Yellowstone’s wild heart.
